I just finished my first "real" workout on the program (other than a day of practicing the moves without really breaking a sweat.) At first I was skeptical - no way a couple of stretches, 2 lifts, and a 10 minute combo workout could be of any use - but I decided to give it a try.

"Hi James,

Thanks for checking in. I'm now on week 3 of the 12-week cycle, although I have effectively been doing this for 4 weeks now. The first week I took the time to get a feel for the exercises and to dial in the weights I should be at. Once I got that figured out I figured I'd restart week 1 at the proper weights. I've also been managing to do 3-days/week.

I really enjoy these workouts and how compact the program is. I can really squeeze in a single day's workouts in about 45 minutes. I particularly enjoy the DB Combo portion of the workout. I strapped a heart rate monitor on to see what kind of effect I got while doing the workout and during each of the 3 DB Combo cycles, I pretty much hit close to my max heart rate (~185).

I keep telling everyone that those ~6 minutes are tough and effective. I look forward to my first ride of the season. We're in our spring thaw right now so I'm still several weeks away from being able to hit the trails but I'll likely be able to get some road rides in. It's strange to say, but I already feel stronger without getting any rides in.

"Hi James,

Have been meaning to send you a thank you note for ages. First of all, I am stoked that you came up with new program that isn't so full on. What i can say is that is has changed my riding style (and other things too) permanently, I am a much better sprinter now. I get behind the pedals and use my glutes. This means I push a much heavier gear. I find that my pedal stroke is much smoother now, and I actually feel the fatigue in my glutes and calves well before my quads now.

Other parts of the program have been great too, mobility wise. I could never touch my toes before I started and my family has a history of bad backs. Now I can get my palms flat on the ground. I hardly get back pains now, it’s only when I don’t do the exercises for a while. I am a very detailed person and love to understand what I do as much as much as I can. Be it suspension design, bike dynamics or my own body. Thanks to you I have been able to have a much deeper understanding of my body."

This plan is great since I can do it at the hotel's workout rooms during the week and rock the trails on the weekends.

I shaved 8 minutes off my time just yesterday at the local trail, so that gets a guy stoked ;)

And once the 12 weeks or so is done doing this, I hope to then have the core strength to move back into the Ultimate program and keep the building going!
